  • Featuring 53 cabins, the gracious and intimate National Geographic Orion takes travelers to little-known waters and isles in the South Pacific, Australia, and Indonesia to experience each location's natural and cultural wonders up close. With her high ice-class rating, National Geographic Orion is strong enough to explore the polar regions, yet her elevated maneuverability allows for navigation of inshore waters, secluded bays, and sinuous rivers—practically anywhere accessible by sea. At the helm of National Geographic Orion is an expert crew, capable of handling intricate operations that large cruise ships could never attempt. The ship features modern navigational equipment and technological abilities that allow her to navigate safely, even in uncharted waters. She currently holds the distinction of having sailed further south than any other vessel in the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic fleet. National Geographic Orion offers guests a spirited, almost clubby environment onboard. Of her many amenities and features, the most appealing is her outdoor deck space, which beckons in the balmy reaches of the South Pacific and beyond and offers a range of panoramic views of the region’s rich avian and marine life.

Explore lost civilizations amid paradisiacal, seldom-seen isles

Sailing in the wake of early Polynesian navigators, this Tahiti expedition strikes to the farthest reaches of Oceania. From remote and enigmatic Easter Island to the historically significant Pitcairn Islands through the “low islands” of the Tuamotu Archipelago to Tahiti, you’ll visit islands that are virtually inaccessible and untouched. The voyage begins in one of the most isolated landfalls of Polynesia: Easter Island. See the legendary moai statues up close and hear the leading theories on what happened to the people who created them from top experts. Walk the length of untouched tropical beaches, meet the descendants of H.M.S. Bounty mutineers, and drift dive or snorkel through an atoll pass. DAY 1: U.S. / Papeete, French Polynesia Depart in the late afternoon for Tahiti and arrive late in the evening on the same day. Check into a hotel room and spend the evening at your leisure. DAY 2: Papeete / Embark This morning enjoy breakfast at your leisure and spend some time exploring the resort while adjusting to island time. Meet your fellow travelers  for lunch and then join us for a tour of Tahiti before embarking the ship in the late afternoon. DAY 3: Makatea An uplifted coral atoll, the island of Makatea is one of the most unique landforms in the Pacific. Spend the day exploring limestone caves and grottos with your expedition team and local guides, or search for endemic fruit doves and myriad seabirds, then snorkel among colorful fish on the nearby reef. DAY 4-8: At Sea / Tuamotu Archipelago Today we begin our exploration of the “Dangerous Archipelago,” in Fakarava, one of the largest atolls in French Polynesia and part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Explore the protected reefs or ride the current into the lagoon on a world-famous drift snorkel. From here, your Captain and Expedition Leader will determine our next spot for exploration. In true expedition mode, we will visit some of the Tuamotus’ most remote islands, taking the opportunity to explore them by land and by sea. Navigate reefs and islets as we make our way east and explore one of French Polynesia’s many uninhabited atolls such as Tahanea. DAY 9: Mangareva Spend a day at sea scanning the horizon with our naturalists or relaxing on deck with a good book. We then arrive at Mangareva, the largest of the Gambier Islands, with its interesting history and beautiful lagoon. Venture underwater to snorkel, meet islanders to learn about their culture and the missionaries who made their home here, or go on a hike with our naturalists. DAY 10-13: Pitcairn Islands / At Sea We begin our exploration at the famed Pitcairn Island. Many of the mutineers of the legendary H.M.S. Bounty made their home here in the late 18th century, and about 50 of their descendants still live here today. Meet the residents and hear a few words of the unusual Pitkern dialect—a combination of English “sailor speak” and Polynesian phrases. Visit the gravesite of the last surviving Bounty mutineer, John Adams, and see the Bounty’s anchor, which was salvaged in 1957. We continue to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Henderson Island, an uplifted atoll that is uninhabited and virtually untouched by humans. Discover the island’s four endemic bird species, rich flora and fauna, and fascinating geology. At  Ducie Atoll, spend time spotting frigatebirds and boobies or snorkeling among spectacular reefs. Diving is available for guests on the National Geographic Orion. DAY 14-15: At Sea As we voyage east toward Easter Island, head up to the Bridge to watch for wildlife and observe expert navigation at work as our skilled Captain and officers sail these historic waters. There’ll also be time to enjoy a massage in the wellness center, workout in the gym, and browse in the library. Each day our naturalists offer talks that add depth to your experience. DAY 16-19: Easter Island, Chile / Disembark / Santiago / U.S. Arrive at Easter Island where you will check into the Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa (or similar) for two nights. Explore volcanic calderas, jagged lava fields, and sweeping grasslands to discover the colossal moai statues, the astonishing legacy of a long-lost culture. Join archaeologists to examine these statues and discuss their meaning and creation; visit burial sites, quarries, and intricately carved ceremonial altars. Join our charter flight to Santiago, Chile for immediate connection to your overnight international flight home. Restrictions that Apply: Prize valid for one Category 1 cabin for two persons, for departure on April 16, 2023. • The two Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe models feature sharp silhouettes and satin finishes exuding a sense of stealthy refinement. Set atop are their robust unidirectional rotating bezels with blue ceramic inserts and Liquidmetal® hour-markers. The Bathyscaphe’s crystal-clear legibility and razor-sharp detailing are juxtaposed by the warm and inviting blue tones of the dial, whose shimmering reflections play with light thanks to a beautifully executed sunburst finish. Rectangular hands and chapter rings composed of gold and Super-LumiNova® dots evoke Blancpain's historical Bathyscaphe editions.    Forged in steel, the 38mm Bathyscaphe is equipped with Blancpain's renowned self-winding Calibre 1150. The 43mm version is crafted from grey ceramic and powered by Calibre 1315, a technical and precision timekeeping benchmark in the realm of luxury sports watches.   Both movements are visible through a sapphire case-back revealing all the beauty of a sandblasted and satin-finished 18K gold winding rotor engraved with the Blancpain logo, along with snailed and beveled bridges.    Exclusively for Oceana's SeaChange 2022 auction winner, Blancpain offers the possibility to make the timepieces unique by replacing the Blancpain logo on the winding rotor with a personalized engraving. Engraving is not part of the standard offering within any Blancpain boutique, so this is a rare opportunity to personalize the watches that define the standards of fine-diving watches for the entire industry.   Water-resistant to 30 bar, equivalent to 300 meters, both watches are offered on sail-canvas straps.  To see the art and craft that goes into making a Blancpain timepiece, take this 2-minute virtual tour of the Blancpain Manufacture.   Specifications: 43mm | 38mm   About Blancpain & the Fifty Fathoms  Established in 1735, Oceana's partner Blancpain is recognized as the world's oldest watch brand. For nearly three centuries, its tradition has been innovation, and it is a major innovation that established the brand's bonds with the ocean.    In 1953, Blancpain presented the first modern diving watch, the Fifty Fathoms. Then CEO Jean-Jacques Fiechter, a passionate diver who realized the vital importance of reliably measuring time underwater, thus marked both diving and watchmaking history defining the standards of fine dive watches for the entire industry. A true tool watch, the Fifty Fathoms was immediately adopted by elite military units around the world, including the French Nageurs de Combat, the US Navy Seals and UDT, the German Kampfschwimmer, and many more.   Three years later, in 1956, Blancpain brilliantly presented the Bathyscaphe model as a reliable diver's watch whose size would make it suitable for everyday wear. Named after the deep-diving submersible invented by the Swiss physicist and explorer Auguste Piccard, the original Bathyscaphe dive watch was introduced as the civilian complement to the more professional Fifty Fathoms. It came in a smaller size and was targeted toward the recreational diving market.   Generously donated by Blancpain

In 2008, his work was selected for a 110 year-old juried exhibition at the Musée du Louvre with the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.

Shortly after his exhibition in Paris and finding inspiration and materials in the form of vintage magazines among the vendors along the Seine, Verbicky created the Media Paintings. These complex and sculptural mixed media artworks became vessels for communicating about a society oversaturated by media and allowed Verbicky, as a visual language manipulator, to move beyond deconstruction alone create his own new, abstract visual language. By utilizing and reconstructing rare historical content, including both obsolete and persisting brands and advertisements, as well as vintage graphics, Verbicky has built an enormous oeuvre of densely layered and unique compositions that ensnare the viewer by engaging the natural human proclivity to find order in chaos, to sort and assign meaning as a way to navigate the world. In this process, he reminds the viewer that they are constantly being influenced.

In 2014, Verbicky reexamined paint on canvas with the ERA and Bhavanga series, transcending the barriers of paper collage with bands of hand-painted canvas, enamel script, classical imagery from esoteric texts and heightened textures using crystallina and concrete. In 2019, Verbicky launched the BRAINSCAN series, which he calls Alternative Portraiture. Massive abstract artworks that seek to define and interpret both the physical organ of the brain while using color and form to depict the more elusive states of human consciousness, BRAINSCAN shows us what our thoughts look like while operating under the influence of narcotics, chemicals, and emotional states. Also in 2019, Verbicky launched the Peace Portal series after the flagship piece was auctioned by the Chairman of the Board of the Louvre, Becca Cason Thrash, with all funds to support the restoration of Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris after the devastating fire caused severe damage to the iconic structure. “In this small way I can repay Paris for the inspiration she has given me and my work.”

In 2020, Verbicky expanded his work further still into the realm of installation art with his creation ‘What is Reality’. Transforming a 1966 decommissioned military vehicle into a controversial art piece painted with symbols, graphics and the names of hundreds of gods spanning across all cultures, Verbicky illegally installed his piece in front of the Los Angeles City Hall building at the height of the social unrest as protestors faced off against the National Guard. A commentary on the chaotic nature of 2020 and the search for meaning, normalcy, and answers in the face of a world turned upside down, ‘What is Reality’ asks the same questions we are asking ourselves during this tumultuous time, whilst simultaneously advancing themes that Verbicky has tackled for years: how is the world shaping our views, and what do you see when you look inside yourself?

Verbicky collaborates frequently with philanthropic organizations, using his artwork to contribute to nonprofits like the Waterkeeper Alliance and the Art of Elysium. He has been the focus of international exhibitions ranging from Berlin to Bangkok, Beirut to New York City, Boston, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles. His pieces have been auctioned by Sothebys & Christie’s, and are counted in thousands of important private, public, celebrity and museum collections in countries all over the world.

Verbicky works and lives with his wife and three children in Southern California.

  • Deeply influenced by his remarkable fourteen year sailing voyage around the world, this Nautical Sphere sculpture captures the artist’s journey at sea, and the privilege of experiencing the ocean, with its stunning display of marine life, in its most beautiful, powerful and natural form. Neville meticulously designs and transcribes his expressions, using traditional scrimshawing techniques, onto a truly unique canvas - antique glass fishing floats, handmade spheres formed over one hundred years ago. But the mass production of plastic would eventually replace these floats, forever changing our world, and with it, the delicate balance of our oceans and its valuable marine life. This remarkable piece of art and sculpture measures 9.5” in diameter. Air bubbles suspended inside the heavy glass have been integrated into the hand-etched design, and in exquisite detail, sea creatures can be discovered floating amongst flowing latitudes that circle the sphere - patterns formed when the molten orb was hand blown over a century ago. This Nautical Sphere reflects the beauty and spectrum of ocean colors, with the delicate refraction of light through changing depths of glass, and the shifting shadows cast from the artist’s scrimshawed design. Artist Bio Neville Hockley was born in Southampton, England, and has lived most of his life by the sea. He is a graduate from the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York City and also holds a degree from Portsmouth College of Art and Design in the UK. In 1997 Neville founded i&D, a New York design studio, and grew his business into a multiple International Davy Award Winning agency. He is the author of Dream Time, a story published by Vanguard Press that chronicles his first ocean voyage from Australia to Italy. In 2007 Neville and his wife, Catherine, set sail from New York to explore the world on their thirty-eight foot cutter-rig sloop, Dream Time. For a remarkable fourteen years, sailing over 50,000 nautical miles across all four hemispheres, Neville continued to develop his carvings and unique scrimshaw designs. Neville’s life at sea and his creative diversity have been featured in dozens of magazines around the world. When Neville is not sailing, he can be found working from his seaside studio in Long Beach, New York. Generously donated by Neville Hockley

  • This piece is part of Margaret’s series of emotionally charged Coastal abstract artworks. She uses powerful brushstrokes, as she does in all her paintings, in order to create an impression. The image is reminiscent of a memory of a beach wedding and watching bouquet floral petals floating on the surface of slow moving tide from the edge of a seawall.

Acrylic, pastel, ink, and pigments on canvas. Finished with a glaze of UV varnish to protect against sunlight and dust damage. Gallery Wrapped, with painted sides.

Dimensions: 36 x 36 x 1.5″ About Margaret Juul "Tumbling underneath waves amid effervescent sea tones, my compositions are fresh and original expressions of the colors and patterns of water in motion. Captured in visual art as an unwavering hold on my spirit — with fluidity, intuition, and reflective volatility. I incorporate irregular shapes which move around the canvas, reminiscent of the brilliant marine hues that convey water in 19th-century Japanese woodblock prints.  Close inspection reveals rough, textured surfaces from the thick application of medium on linen- including oil, acrylic, ink and oil pastel, reiterating the earthly and organic nature of my subject. As a multifaceted artist, with a focus on painting, illustration, interior and textile design for more than two decades, I have cultivated an extensive list of devoted supporters. My work displays prominently in a wide variety of settings—from celebrity homes and corporate lobbies to commercial and hospitality sites internationally. A native of New York, but long-time resident in Florida, I have exhibited internationally from San Diego to Boston and London to Beijing. Some notable exhibitions are Iraq Museum, Art Basel, Swiss Art, Affordable Art Fair Manhattan, Foosaner Art Museum and a collaboration with Yoko Ono. My work is represented worldwide through renowned galleries and print vendors. With an education in Fine Art and Interior Design, I have dedicated my career to the visual arts through painting, custom commissions, and designing textiles full time. I am always looking for custom commission and freelance projects." Generously donated by Margaret Juul
