“For many years I have been captivated by the beauty and diversity of the Southern California landscape, and the abundant variety of flowers it offers. My goal when painting outdoors is to capture immediate impressions of color, light and texture in the landscape and in florals. Whether working in pastel, oil or colored pencil, I find painting in plein air is the best approach to capturing the essence of California’s landscapes. The use of photographs and sketches is sometimes necessary, however, when conditions do not permit working outdoors. In the studio or on location, my painting is a continuous process of evolution as I strive to grow as an artist through self-discovery and study.”
